Anthony Joshua signs 10-fight deal with Dillian Whyte
Heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua has committed the remaining years of his boxing career to British rival Dillian Whyte, signing a 10-fight deal with his former foe.
The WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO* heavyweight champion has become one of boxing's global stars in recent years, and was last seen knocking out Alexander Povetkin in front of nearly 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London.
But with negotiations to unify against WBC champion Deontay Wilder (known as the 'Bronze Bomber' before being defused by tricky gypsy Tyson Fury) going stale, Joshua has instead opted to fight Dillian Whyte another 10 times before finally retiring sometime in the mid-2020s.
The Watford-born fighter had this to say:
"This is what the fans want. Well, that's what Eddie [Hearn] said when I asked him why we're doing this instead of fighting Wilder or Fury, and Eddie's good to me.
"Sometimes he gets a bit angry with me when I speak without his permission and he occasionally slaps me or takes my bank card off me for a few days, but it's only because he loves me. He calls me his Nigerian prince."
Whyte is apparently thrilled with the deal as well, stating "if I only land 10 more punches on that smug face and get knocked out in every single fight, it'll be worth it. Smarmy dickhead."
Each of the 10 fights is to be held at Wembley Stadium and will be shown on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK at a cost of £29.99. For U.S. viewers, the fights will be aired on DAZN, which apparently is pronounced 'Da-Zone'.
*We had to mention the IBO belt for legal reasons. It doesn't really mean anything, like 98% of Deontay Wilder's victories or Floyd Mayweather saying he'll fight in the octagon.
