Son Heung-Min to have facial reconstructive surgery after HORROR challenge vs Man Utd
Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-Min is set to undergo reconstructive surgery this week following Scott McTominay's 'disgusting' challenge during yesterday's Premier League clash in North London.
The incident occurred in the first half, when United striker Edinson Cavani appeared to have put the Red Devils in front after 36 minutes. But a VAR review showed Scott McTominay cut Son down with a vicious swipe to the face in the build-up and the goal was quite rightly disallowed.
Incredibly, despite suffering life-changing damage, the 28-year-old South Korean managed to play on for the rest of the match and even scored just 4 minutes later, such is the mental fortitude of a war veteran who served his country for three gruelling weeks last year.
Unfortunately though, the damage suffered by 'Sonny' was far worse than originally anticipated; doctors confirmed that X-rays taken after the game showed several fractures, a broken orbital bone and a 'completely shattered' jawbone. Son is set to miss the rest of the season after undergoing facial reconstructive surgery this week, and will likely never look the same again. State-of-the-art technology used by the club's doctors have revealed what the forward could look like when he returns next season:
